Course Objectives:
The role of facility staff in managing the milieu- with focus on trauma informed communication and de-escalation techniques, service delivery and appropriate boundaries for physical and verbal interactions. Students will learn how to apply the course objectives below when supervising residents and staff with the purpose of providing a safe, clean, comfortable residence that will better support successful foster youth outcomes.
By the end of the course, participants will learn:
- Facility personnel roles and responsibilities6
- The structure and principles of Title 22 and Health & Safety Code Sections
- An overview of Client Populations/Family Dynamics/LGBT (AB) 458 Foster Care Non- Discrimination Act & AB 1856 of 2012 and AB 663 of 2013 Core of Knowledge/ Placement Agencies;
- Stakeholder Relationships/Regulatory Agencies
- Self-awareness – appropriate boundaries for physical and verbal interactions with foster youth who have a history of abuse, neglect or other trauma.
- Client supervision:Focus on De-escalation techniques, service delivery, applying the reasonable & prudent parent standard
- Discipline Policies and procedures, Positive Discipline and the importance of self esteem.
- Staff Supervision; Practical strategies for successful supervision of staff.
- Communication: Styles and body language, Trauma Informed communication techniques
- Health & Safety Awareness
