CEU Hours: 3
Equip your team with evidence-based skills to improve resident outcomes, reduce crisis incidents, decrease staff burnout. This 3-hour course transforms care from reactive to proactive and healing-centered. Increased staff confidence and competency, improved resident quality of life, and a safer, more therapeutic environment.
Staff are intrinsically motivated to provide better care but may be initially unaware of the profound impact of trauma or the principles of Trauma Informed Care, TIC.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, learners will be able to:
- Define the three “E’s” of trauma (Events, Experiences, Effects) and the four “R’s” of a Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) framework (Realize, Recognize, Respond, Resist Re-traumatization).
- Identify common behavioral and psychological presentations of trauma in adults within a residential setting.
- Differentiate between a trauma-informed response and a traditional, potentially re-traumatizing, response to challenging behaviors.
- Apply de-escalation and emotional co-regulation techniques when a resident is in a state of distress.
- Implement daily TIC principles in routine interactions, including personal care, mealtimes, and community activities.
- Analyze the residential environment and their own practices to identify and mitigate potential triggers.
- Learn about personalized safety and self-care plan to prevent burnout and compassion fatigue.
