Good food, nutrition and hydration are important for everyone, but we know that eating and drinking can
become increasingly difficult as dementia progresses. This course has been developed to provide
some helpful advice and tips on how to increase food and drink intake for those living with
dementia. This course does not cover nutritional care in people with advanced dementia. It is
important to seek specialist nutritional support at this stage.

In this course we will cover the following:
- Importance of eating & drinking well
- Eating & Drinking difficulties.
- How to increase food and drink intake
- Improving mealtime experiences
- Practical suggestions for adapting food and drink
- Factors to keep in mind during mealtime
It is our job as care staff to monitor our residents and make sure they are eating and drinking properly. Residents with Demetia have a higher risk of malnutrition and dehydration.
We will address steps you can take to encourage good nutrition among your residents with Dementia. It is necessary to report to your supervisor when a resident is not eating or drinking well.
